XLMiner Analysis ToolPak not working? Here is the fix

If you open Extensions, XLMiner Analysis ToolPak and see only Help, with no Start or Open item, the add-on is not coming back. You did nothing wrong.

What happened

Google Apps Script, the platform Sheets add-ons run on, had two engines: the old Rhino runtime and the newer V8 runtime. Google shut Rhino down on June 1, 2026. Add-ons that were never moved to V8 can no longer run, and Sheets shows only their Help menu. Reviews of XLMiner Analysis ToolPak from June 2026 onward report exactly this, and one reviewer quotes Frontline Systems support saying the product is discontinued.

The same change affected other add-ons that many courses rely on, including some Solver, Goal Seek and text utilities.

What to use instead

StatPak is a maintained replacement built on the current runtime. It has the same 19 Data Analysis tools as XLMiner and Excel, with the same output layout, plus Goal Seek and Solver.

  1. Click Extensions, Add-ons, Manage add-ons and remove XLMiner Analysis ToolPak (optional, it no longer does anything).
  2. Click Extensions, Add-ons, Get add-ons, search StatPak and install it.
  3. Open Extensions, StatPak, Data Analysis.

For instructors

If your course materials say "Extensions, XLMiner Analysis ToolPak, Start", students can follow the same steps with StatPak: the tool names and output tables are the same, so existing assignments and answer keys still apply. Contact support@statpak.app about classroom access.
